Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea

Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea - Barbara Demick It's hard to review this book...

The book describes the lifes of five North Koreans which defected to South Korea when ... just read it yourself. Simply put: their life was horrible in parts. Unbelieveable. While reading this book you simply wish it can't be true. But there are a lot of references at the end of the book which actually indicate it IS true ...

Most of the parts may be as true as a citizen of 'the west' may know. Nobody knows better because North Korea is a very isolated country.

It's ensured there was a great famine in the 90s in North Korea. But how are the people nowadays doing? ... Nobody has correct information about that, because N. K. is so isolated. Barbara Demick gives a short overview at the end of the book (2008, mostly speculative, nobody knows better) ...

A hard read but a very informative one. A book you will think about. At the latest when you throw away food that's a little bit rotten. Then you might think about ppl eating grass.
